Habitat for Humanity’s Partner Organisations: An Overview

Habitat for Humanity builds homes and transforms lives throughout the Australia and the world. To Habitat, a decent home is the gateway to so much more: improved family health, better schooling for children, the chance to boost household incomes, and the opportunity to live fulfilled lives.

Over more than two decades of operations in the Asia-Pacific region, Habitat for Humanity has collaborated with a range of organisations in a variety of formal and less formal relationships. Habitat’s experience is that significant benefits flow from teaming up with corporations, churches, non-governmental organisations, public bodies and other organisations.

With more than one third of Asia Pacific’s inhabitants living in substandard conditions or worse, the need for decent housing is a vital and proven step in lifting people out of poverty.  Forming dynamic practical alliances allows Habitat and its partners to extend their influence, share experiences, leverage resources - and avoid unnecessary duplication and pitfalls.

Working with partner organisations, Habitat accesses greater numbers of families in need, and is able to build and rehabilitate larger numbers of homes- scaling up its ministry, and extending its mission effectively and quickly. Partners working with Habitat benefit by adding a shelter component to the services and programs they offer their constituents and stakeholders.

Habitat for Humanity welcomes the opportunity to work with partners, contributing its proficiency and knowledge in housing, construction, project management and volunteer mobilisation, to alleviate poverty and transform lives.

Habitat’s partners include:

Corporations

Habitat for Humanity collaborates with local and multinational business corporations to address the challenges of poverty housing. Businesses partner Habitat through financial and leadership support, product and service donations, and mobilising employees as Habitat volunteers or a combination of these possibilities.

Churches

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry that welcomes everyone-regardless of religious preference - to act on a shared vision of a world without poverty housing. Following Jesus’ example of caring and compassion for all, Habitat provides hands-on opportunities for churches to put their faith into actions that help transform the lives of families and their communities from destitution to dignity. Churches also give regular tithes to assist Habitat in its ministry.

Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) and Other Groups

Habitat teams up with like-minded non-governmental organisations, charities, community and civic groups in its mission to alleviate poverty, contributing experience and expertise in housing, construction and community development. These partnerships increase Habitat’s ability to provide decent homes by opening access to new communities and greater numbers of families living below internationally-recognised poverty benchmarks.

Public Bodies & Multilateral Organisations

The nature of Habitat for Humanity’s mission demands an ability to work hand in hand with international, regional, national, and local public bodies. Government and multilateral agencies tap Habitat’s expertise to fund projects and develop innovative solutions to poverty housing issues. Habitat national offices, affiliates and resource centres have extensive experience negotiating land access and rights, building design, and construction safety for Habitat homeowners to enjoy safe, secure accommodation.
