Partner Volunteer Organisations

Habitat for Humanity Australia is a prould partner of Australian Youth Ambassadors of Development (AYAD) and Volunteering for International Development from Australia (VIDA) coordinating a range of volunteer placements in developing countries throughout the Asia Pacific region. AYDA and VIDA are funded by the Australian Government's overseas aid agency, AusAID, as part of the Australian Volunteer Program. The program also includes Australian Business Volunteers and Australian Volunteers International.

AYAD

The AYAD program places skilled young Australian volunteers, aged 18-30, on short-term assignment of between 3-12 months.

Volunteers use their skills and expertise to actively contribute to international development. The program offers the opportunity to increase understanding of the development needs of our neighbouring countries and broaden participants’ experience by living and working in a cross-cultural environment.

Youth Ambassadors work with Australian organisations, like Habitat for Humanity Australia, and their overseas counterparts. Habitat for Humanity operates in various countries providing a range of assignment and location opportunities listed on the AYAD website.

There are currently two assignments being advertised for Habitat for Humanity:

  • Support Officer (Resource Development) in Thailand
  • Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in Bangladesh

These assignments can be viewed on the AYAD website. Applications close 10 September 2010.

VIDA

VIDA places skilled Australian volunteers in developing countries in the Asia Pacific region in line with Australian Government development priorities. VIDA volunteers work with local counterparts to reduce poverty and achieve sustainable development results in the communities in which they work through skills and knowledge exchange, institutional strengthening and capacity building.

The AYAD and VIDA Programs provide all the necessary support for the volunteers to undertake their assignment, including:

  • Pre-departure preparation;
  • Pre-departure training (cross-cultural communication, health and security, development, capacity building, AusAID background training);
  • Airfares;
  • In-country orientation program and survival language training;
  • Welfare and monitoring support for the duration of the placement;
  • Allowance to cover monthly living cost sand resettlement expenses; and
  • Debriefing program upon return to Australia

*Please note that there are some variations in support services provided between the different programs and you should refer to the websites for a more detailed breakdown of provisions.
