Yea Heights Estate

Habitat for Humanity Victoria is seeking to help families affected by the worst natural disaster in Victoria's history through the development of the Yea Heights Estate.

About Yea
Yea is a rural township of approximately 1000 people located 110 kilometres north-east of Melbourne, and is close to many of the communities impacted by the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires.

Still rebuilding lives after the bushfires  7:30 Report, ABC, 8 June 2012

The beginnings of the construction phase March 2012

To help rebuild the communities affected, Habitat for Humanity Victoria is undertaking its largest project to date – building up to 25 safe, decent and affordable new homes over two to three years on 2.1 hectares of land at Rattray Street, Yea. Habitat’s primary aim is to assist families who wish to remain in the region but who:

• do not wish to or who cannot return to the site of their former homes; and/or
• lack the financial or physical capacity (or both) to rebuild their homes.

The homes will be safe, simple, decent and affordable homes, which are professionally designed, energy efficient and sustainable.

Progress Update

Since the launch of Habitat for Humanity Victoria’s largest ever project at the Yea Heights Estate in May 2011, much progress has been made. Twenty five new, safe, decent and affordable homes will be built at the development, primarily to help families affected by the 2009 Black Saturday Bushfires, the worst natural disaster in Victoria’s history.

The civil works are complete with the first home handed over in June and two more handed over in December last year. Work is now well underway for the next two homes, with a further 5 homes to be commenced in the first quarter of this year.
