South Australia news update

2015 promises to be an exciting year for Habitat South Australia.

Habitat for Humanity Australia’s meritorious award for Barry Hughes

We would like to congratulate Barry Hughes on receiving a Meritorious Service Award recognising his significant and substantial contribution to the achievement of the Habitat for Humanity mission and vision in Australia.

This award is one of the highest honours Habitat for Humanity Australia bestows upon its members and was presented to Barry with an engraved plaque at a celebratory dinner.

Barry has been volunteering with Habitat since 1996. He is a long serving member of the Habitat South Australia board, having served as Chair and Deputy Chair and was involved in overseeing and implementing the construction and renovation program in South Australia.

Barry and his wife Pam have travelled on many Global Village overseas volunteering trips including to Cambodia, Bolivia, Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

First build in Paralowie

December heralded a new beginning for Habitat South Australia, as we started building for the first time in the City of Salisbury council area.

Staff and volunteers worked hard to have the frame of the house complete by Christmas.

Our partner family for this three bedroom home is very excited to be part of the build process and is participating in their “sweat equity” (a component of the home building program where families donate their own time in the planning and construction phases).
