You can help the world's poorest families to build safe, decent homes and give them the hope for a better life for themselves, their children and eventually their grandchildren.

No matter who you are, or where you live, your home should be a safe haven. So it is hard to imagine that it could ever be a place where children are in very real danger - a place that actually makes them ill.

Yet many thousands of families around the world live with this danger every day.

Just look at how Phan Thi Tot and her kids live. Her makeshift dwelling of palm leaves is on the verge of collapse. With holes in the thatched roof, the floor always seems to be covered in water. It's a cesspool for Malaria, TB, diarrhoea, Pneumonia and other life-threatening diseases. In homes like these, it's a struggle just to keep the children alive and well.

Tot works from early in the morning until late at night selling watermelons from a small boat to feed her family, earning around 80,000 Dong per day (approximately Aus$7). This hardworking mother is one of many poor families in the Minh Hoa Commune of Vietnam . She desperately wants to build a roof and a concrete floor.

In Vietnam it only costs $4,500 to construct a decent home. But with Tot's modest income, her hopes of having a safe, secure home for her family are remote

You can become a HOPEbuilder and help families like Tot's to build a home.

To become a HOPEbuilder all you need is a big heart, a giving spirit and the commitment to give a monthly donation to Habitat for Humanity Australia . Please click here to join
