Welcome to Habitat in Western Australia!
We are the youngest of the HFHA Affiliates so there are still plenty of opportunities to get involved. Our first home was completed at Seville Grove, Armadale, at the end of 2010 and we have not yet started our next builds. But as well as swinging a hammer alongside our partner family members and other volunteers, you are welcome to join us in building the WA Affiliate itself, and our regional Chapters.
In metropolitan Perth, we are planning to build two houses on two nearby blocks of land in Banksia Grove. We are actively looking for people who live in Banksia Grove, and in the surrounding northern suburbs, to help us set up a Northern Metro Chapter. At the same time, inspired by the Seville Grove build, local people in Armadale are keen to set up a South West Metro Chapter and we are looking for volunteers to help grow the chapter and build more houses in the area.
In the Goldfields area, we have already received a grant from Paddington Gold to enable us to build at least one house. Thanks to the cooperation of the Shire of Kalgoorlie-Boulder, a home will be built on land on the Boulder side of town. The Goldfields Chapter is up and running and already thinking beyond their first house, with offers of land in Coolgardie and Norseman as well as in Kalgoorlie-Boulder.
In Bunbury, a keen group of people have started up a new HfH WA South West Chapter in their area. They are actively recruiting new members as well as looking for the resources they will need to build their first house.
The opportunities are endless. If you’d like to join us in giving people living in housing stress a hand up, please contact us at perth@habitat.org.au or on (08) 9325 9060.
