Victoria hands over 57th home

On Friday 19 May Habitat for Humanity Victoria handed over their most recent new home to Chris and Jacqui and their two boys Mason, 5 and Saxon, 2.

This is the 57th partner family that Habitat Victoria have helped into ownership of a safe, decent and affordable home.

Chris and Jacqui have faced significant obstacles over many years including finding regular work, health issues and the challenge to find a place to call home. When applying for a home loan the bank manager laughed and told them they had no hope based on what Chris was earning.

Now, with a hand up from Habitat for Humanity they are living in their own home with their two boys and are on an affordable pathway to home ownership and out of poverty. Phil Wright, Business Development Manager at Habitat Victoria said for families like Chris and Jacqui a home is life-changing. “Handing over the keys to another house is a deeply significant change for each of our partner families,” he added.

Later this year Habitat Victoria will build their 60th new home and help another family into ownership of an affordable home. A “quick build” is planned in August on Lot 6 at Prospect Rise, Yea. This will be the 12th house to be built as part of the major affordable housing project at Yea. In the interim, Habitat Victoria also have two more houses under way at Yea on Lots 18 and 19. With funds available to support these projects we anticipate these houses being completed later this year.
